Information Governance training
Information Governance training is mandatory for all clinical and non clinical staff within the NHS (including permanent, temporary, contracted, volunteers, bank and agency staff, locums, students, junior doctors, contractors) and must be completed or refreshed annually.
Staff joining the Trust will complete their IG training during the Trust Induction. It is however incumbent on staff and their managers to ensure their IG training is then refreshed every 12 months. Staff may be removed from the authorised list of bank staff unless they keep their training up to date.
To deliver the IG training, a choice of learning for all staff has been arranged so that staff can choose between IG face to face training sessions or by completing an e-learning course.
Non-clinical staff are however expected to refresh their training via e-learning with face to face training generally reserved for clinical staff.
The training programme includes details on essential Information Governance issues such as the Data Protection Act, how to transfer information securely, how to file and store patient records and how to provide adequate security for staff and patient information.
The in-depth IG face to face training sessions are available during the mandatory and statutory one stop shop training days and usually take 1 hour. The refresher course should take no more than 20 minutes to complete which includes a brief multiple choice assessment at the end.
Please note that staff training records are available to view on the WIRED reporting tool http://wired/reports. Monthly training compliance reports are presented to the Quality and Safety and IG Committees. Staff are only permitted to access their own training record. However for monitoring purposes managers may monitor their staff records.
For IG advice concerning the security, retention, access, transmission and disposal of information or to arrange a local IG training session for your team or department please contact Reaz Khedarun, Information Governance and Security Manager, by email Reaz.Khedarun@nhs.net or on 020 8375 2029.
For advice on accessing and completing the e-learning course please contact Sian Scheepers from the Training and Development Team by email sian.scheepers@nhs.net or on 07432 656256.
