Barnet Hospital cycling for Stroke Awareness this month

Barnet Hospital staff are set to raise awareness of Stroke care over the next few weeks through a series of events, including a 100 mile bike ride…taking place in the hospital itself.

Members of the Stroke Team will be holding ‘Life After Stroke’ stalls by the main lifts/staircase of Barnet Hospital on the morning of Friday 11 May, the afternoon of Thursday 17 May, and again on the afternoon of Wednesday 23 May. The stalls will be providing blood pressure checks, nutritional information, free fruit and more.

On Tuesday 29 May, the 100 mile exercise bike ride is taking place from 8.00am to 4.00pm, again by the Hospital’s main lifts/staircase. The event will raise money for the Stroke Association, and staff with collecting tins will be present by the bike. The aim is to get as many people taking part on the bike as possible. The Stroke Team will be leading by example and would like as many members of the public and staff to join them, even if only for a five minute spell!

Vimla Poliah, Senior Sister of the Acute Stroke Unit, said: “We’re looking forward to getting the message out about how a stroke can be prevented and how stroke patients are cared for, and excited about the chance to involve the public in what should be a very entertaining sporting event.”
