Five times Gold-winning Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave and Chief Executive for Sport England Jenny Price have shown their support for the Trust’s running team – ‘Tarmac Troopers’ - at an event in Britannia Village, South East London that brought together Sportsmakers from across London.

The Sportsmakers initiative is designed to help volunteers across the country promote sport in their communities and workplaces as part of the Olympic legacy. Many staff members at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals proudly signed up as Sportsmakers earlier in the year.

Some of these Sportsmakers have now rounded up enough of their colleagues to form the ‘Tarmac Troopers’, a growing team of staff looking to run the first-ever Ealing Half Marathon on 30 September, with proceeds going to the Cardiology service.

Jenny Price, Chief Executive of Sport England, told the ‘Troopers: “What you’re doing is the most fantastic challenge, as well as making you fitter and healthier. Your friends and family would be very proud of you. Thank you for what you’re doing and good luck!”

“During my three days stay, I didn't meet one unfriendly employee. Everyone was so experienced, nice and helpful, which made the experience of giving birth less stressful.”
