Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust is reporting that MRSA cases are 50% lower than they were at this time last year.
11 cases of MRSA have been reported so far in the Trust this year, but only 4 of these were contracted in the hospitals.
The Trust is also pleased to announce that since the introduction of the Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT) for inserting drips into patients, there have been no cases of infection.
Terina Riches, Director of Nursing, praised the hospital's staff for embracing the new culture of infection control that has been embedded into all working practices. "Our staff are more aware than ever of the role they play in preventing infections. The drops we are now seeing in infection rates, year on year, are a testament both to their willingness to change previous working methods and their determination to continue driving standards up. Patients are now more confident than ever that they can be safely treated in our hospitals."
