A senior midwife who began working at Edgware Neonatal Unit in the 1970s has said farewell to her colleagues from across the Trust.

Elly Wong's retirement

Elly Wong came to England and started her psychiatric nursing at Hill End Hospital in St. Albans in 1970. She began her general nursing at Edgware Hospital in 1974, before leaving two years later to perform the same role in Hammersmith Hospital and then also Chelsea Hospital for Women.

Elly completed her midwifery training in 1978. She worked in Edgware Hospital's Neonatal Unit until she left for for Malaysia and Australia in 1981. On coming back to the UK in November 1983 she returned to her old workplace as a staff midwife, where she was promoted to Senior Sister in 1985.

Since then, Elly has worked extremely hard, giving her unstinted loyalty and support to the Unit before and since its merger with the Starlight Unit in Barnet Hospital. Colleagues, friends and parents she has worked with throughout her career came to wish her well for the future in a celebration lunch on Tuesday 19 October in the Starlight Unit.

“Consistent and professional care, delivered in a friendly way.”
