Medicine for the Elderly
The Medicine for the Elderly team provides in-patient, outpatient, sub-specialty and day case treatment services. We provide these services at Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital as well as Finchley Memorial Hospital, Edgware Community Hospital and Potters Bar Hospital.
In-patient acute care for older patients provides comprehensive care for patients with a broad spectrum of acute medical problems including multiple and complex problems. We also provide liaison services in General Surgery, Orthogeriatrics and old age Psychiatry.
The Medicine for the Elderly team provides rehabilitation for those patients whose illness leads to functional deterioration, with the goal of achieving independent living at home. In addition, we run Day Hospitals at Chase Farm Hospital, Finchley Memorial Hospital and Edgware Community Hospital for patient requiring Multidisciplinary out-patient management.
The department provides a number of sub-specialty services, including TIA, Falls clinic, Continence clinics, Parkinson's Disease Clinic and Tilt Table testing. We also run Rapid Access out-patient clinics in which patient's can be seen within 1-2 days of GP referral. Other areas of specialist interest include: Osteoporosis, Sleep Disorder in older people and Intermediate Care.
