Rheumatology

The Rheumatology department provides outpatient clinics at Barnet, Chase Farm, Edgware Community, Potters Bar, Finchley Memorial and Cheshunt Community Hospitals. There is a wide-ranging programme of treatment for patients suffering with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory arthritides. Extensive use is made of day case facilities.

There is currently a team of six Consultants, an associate specialist, and four specialist nurses, with support from three clinical assistants, two extended scope physiotherapists, as well as clerical and administrative staff.

The department has wide experience in the use of ‘biological’ drugs for rheumatoid arthritis, as well as facilities for administration of intravenous infusions where required. In addition to being supported by pathology and radiology services they have close links with other services within the Trust, running combined clinics with orthopaedics, respiratory medicine and obstetrics. Special interests include inflammatory arthritis, osteoporosis, back pain with an epidural service, and vasculitis.
